Employer spending $680k to improve safety

A Queensland employer that spent nearly $450,000 on improving its health and safety following an incident has committed a further $230,000 to "safety and resilience" training and other initiatives, as part of an enforceable undertaking.

Safety was "deplorable" on major project

The safety standards during the construction of Brisbane's Airport Link tunnel have been declared "deplorable", with one worker being killed, the joint-venture partners facing OHS prosecutions, one partner and another employer entering enforceable undertakings after other workers were injured, and 70 notices being issued by a regulator.

A South Australian employer that failed to assess the risks of retrieving documents from a loft has been fined $80,000, after a worker fell through the ceiling. Also in this article, a Queensland employer has committed to spending $125,000 on height training and other initiatives - in lieu of a safety prosecution.

Foremen to be trained in safety "conversations" as part of EU

A national employer will train 10 of its foremen and leading hands to stress the importance of safety in "each and every conversation" they have with workers, as part of a $128,000 enforceable undertaking.

Enforceable JSA training program to deliver best-practice system

A national employer will, in lieu of a Queensland safety prosecution, train dozens of its managers and foremen to develop JSAs and SWPs, and then use the documents created in the training exercises to develop best-practice procedures.
