A labour-hire company that failed to conduct risk assessments at a host workplace has entered an OHS undertaking in lieu of prosecution, in a move that could affect the viability of the business in Victoria under the State's new licensing scheme.
In an Australian first, the Victorian Government has introduced a 476-page Bill creating an OHS-style general duty to protect human health and the environment from pollution and waste, with maximum penalties of $3.2 million and five years' jail.
The Victorian Government has committed to creating a new criminal offence of workplace manslaughter, with 20-year jail terms and the highest maximum work safety fine in the country, while the Western Australian Government is being pressured to honour its election promise on the issue.
