New OHS and equipment Regulations have commenced in Victoria, while other reforms and legislative instruments are expected to take effect within the next two weeks and later this year.

An OHS regulator has agreed, in a settlement with manufacturers, to remove the word "required" from its policy on operator protective devices for quad bikes, but says this won't "hinder" its powers of enforcement.

The Victorian Government has agreed, in principle, to adopt the national model WHS Act's broad definition of worker and consultation obligations, as recommended by a 2016 inquiry into the labour-hire sector.

New safety Regulations have been made under three statutes in Victoria, and will commence at about the same time as proposed amendments to the OHS Act.
