Employer that put off anti-bullying plan handed $600k damages bill

A Victorian employer that failed to act on its plan to introduce an anti-bullying policy - after a worker complained her manager harassed her - has been ordered to pay the worker nearly $600,000 in damages.

New workers' comp reduction policy overturned in letter-bomber case

In a case involving a convicted letter bomber and Comcare's controversial superannuation policy, the AAT has found that a worker can only be considered to have received a benefit, under workers' comp laws, if he or she "actually" receives it.

Worker assaulted after drinking in overseas pub wins workers' comp

A Qantas flight attendant who was assaulted after leaving a bar during a break between two flights has been awarded workers' compensation, after the NSW WCC found Qantas encouraged him to visit restaurants and bars during work intervals.

Law firm negligent in advising injured worker to settle claim

A law firm that advised an injured nurse against suing her employer for loss of earnings - after she was told to "duck" when dealing with a violent patient, and subsequently kicked in the neck - has been ordered to pay her $372,000 in damages.

Morbid obesity caused by 1990 work injuries

An army veteran, who gained more than 100kg after he was discharged due to injury in 1990, has convinced the AAT that his morbid obesity is work-related. Also in this article, an ATO employee who was injured after she fell down basement steps, and had to crawl back up them to get help, has had her pain-related claim dismissed.
